Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Atlanta
Do wisdom teeth always need removal?
Not all wisdom teeth (third molars) need to be removed. In many cases, wisdom teeth grow in properly and can be monitored over time. That’s why a careful examination and review of X-rays is the first step before recommending any treatment.
At Brookhaven Family Dentistry, we evaluate the position, angle, and health of your wisdom teeth to determine whether removal is necessary. When third molars (aka wisdom teeth) grow in sideways, partially erupted, or in an abnormal position, they can trap bacteria, cause pain, damage nearby teeth, or lead to infection. In these situations, extraction is often the best way to prevent ongoing or future problems.
In this video Dr. Kokabi talks through bleeding after an extraction, which is the question we are asked most often once wisdom teeth are out.
What to do if the extraction site will not stop bleeding
If you have had a tooth pulled and the site keeps bleeding through the gauze, take a fresh piece of gauze, or fold a paper towel into a square, and place it over the socket. Pinch it firmly between your thumb and first finger and squeeze hard, directly over where the tooth was. Hold that pressure without letting go for five to seven minutes. That is usually enough to stop the bleeding.
