Root Canals in Atlanta
What is a root canal?
A root canal is sometimes necessary in order to save a tooth that would otherwise require extraction. This is usually recommended when the nerve of a tooth is infected. Once the infection is removed and the tooth is restored with a crown, a patient can expect continued function for years to come. Brookhaven Family Dentistry is one of the few dental practices in Atlanta that performs certain non-molar root canals on Saturdays.

What minimally invasive dentistry means here
For us it means drilling on a tooth only as a last resort. There are plenty of cases where ten out of ten dentists agree a tooth needs a filling or a crown, but there is also a wide gray area where three dentists give three different answers, and in those cases we sit at the conservative end. An old filling being worn is not by itself a reason to replace it: if it is not broken and has no decay around it, we would rather leave it. Drilling out a filling that did not need replacing can leave the tooth sensitive and sore, and occasionally leads to a root canal on a tooth that was fine. We have worked this way for over 20 years.
